The Glenallachie 7 Year Virgin Oak Series Hungrian Oak Finish Single Malt Whisky 48% Alc 700ml

The Glenallachie 7 Year Virgin Oak Series Hungrian Oak Finish Single Malt Whisky 48% Alc 700ml

The Glenallachie 7 Year Virgin Oak Series Hungrian Oak Finish Single Malt Whisky 48% Alc 700mL

  • This is part of GlenAllachie’s Virgin Oak Series, specifically the 7‑year-old finished in Hungarian virgin oak (Quercus petraea) from the ZemplĂ©n forest in northeast Hungary.

  • The oak trees in that region grow very slowly (because of cold climate, volcanic soil, and high altitude), which gives the wood a tight grain that’s ideal for mellow, refined maturation.

  • The barrels were toasted and medium-charred before use.

  • This whisky is bottled at 48% ABV, with natural color (no added color) and non-chill-filtered, so it retains lots of character from the casks.

  • According to the distillery, it’s “aromatic, well-balanced and wonderfully unique … delivering silky smooth richness.”

Tasting Notes

Nose (Aroma):

  • Butterscotch, citrus peel, and milk chocolate.

  • Spicy notes: cinnamon, ginger, and a hint of raisins.

  • Orchard fruit aroma (like apples or pears).

Palate (Taste):

  • Sweet heather honey and cinnamon first.

  • Rich milk / dark chocolate, lemon drops, and a caramelised brown sugar sweetness.

  • A touch of ginger or gentle spice from the oak.

Finish:

  • Warm and long, with lingering chocolate, raisins, and a spicy wood character.

  • A soft sweetness persists (brown sugar feel) with that oak’s unique influence.
