González Byass Alfonso Oloroso Seco Sherry 375ml
González Byass Alfonso Oloroso Seco Sherry 375ml
-
Alfonso Oloroso Seco is a fortified sherry from the “Sherry Triangle” region in Jerez, Spain. It’s made from 100% Palomino Fino grapes.
-
After fermentation, the wine is fortified (to about 18% ABV), then aged oxidatively in American oak casks under the traditional “solera” system. There is no protective layer of “flor” (yeast), which allows oxygen exposure and yields the characteristic rich, amber-brown color and deeper flavors.
-
Bottled at about 18% alcohol by volume and typically labeled “seco” (dry).
Tasting Note
Alfonso Oloroso Seco is in the “dry oloroso” style — nutty, oxidative, and savory rather than sweet. Typical tasting notes from critics and producers highlight:
-
Color & Aroma: Deep amber / coppery-amber color. Aromas of toasted nuts (hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds), dried fruit (fig, raisin), a bit of leather or tobacco, subtle oak, and sometimes truffle- or earthy-like notes.
-
Palate / Flavor: Dry (not sweet), rich and full-bodied — nutty flavors (walnut, hazelnut), dried or stewed fruit (fig, plum, raisin), a touch of vanilla or mild oak/spice, and sometimes a subtle balsamic / oxidative character that brings complexity.
-
Finish: Long, dry, with lingering nutty and dried-fruit notes, maybe a gentle dryness/salinity or mild bitterness that reflects its oxidative aging
