Bladnoch Select Cask Peated Oloroso Single Barrel 116.4 Proof 700ml
Bladnoch Select Cask Peated Oloroso Single Barrel 116.4 Proof 700ml
Scotland's southernmost distillery does the unexpected — and does it brilliantly. Every October, Bladnoch Distillery embarks on its annual peat production, an unconventional move for a Lowland distillery, where smoky expressions are anything but the norm. This single barrel release takes that rare peated spirit and matures it in hand-selected Oloroso sherry casks, creating a collision of worlds — campfire smoke meeting rich, dried fruit decadence — that is wholly unique to Bladnoch.
Drawn from an individual cask and bottled at natural cask strength, each single cask release offers its own story and character, and is entirely unique. At 116.4 proof, this is bold, unfiltered, and unapologetically expressive — a true collector's dram from one of Scotland's most storied and reimagined distilleries.
Founded in 1817, Bladnoch saw several extended closures before Australian entrepreneur David Prior bought the site in 2015 and returned it to independent production. Under the direction of Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage — formerly of The Macallan — Bladnoch's peated expressions offer something a little different from this Lowland distillery, where smoky whisky is not the expected norm.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Campfire smoke and toasted peat intertwine with rich Oloroso-driven aromas of dark raisins, dried plum, and candied orange peel — bold yet surprisingly inviting.
Palate: Sherry-soaked raisins and milk chocolate meet layers of smoked meat, dark cherry, and warming baking spices. The cask strength delivery adds an oily, full-bodied texture that coats the palate.
Finish: Long and complex — lingering smoke, dried fruit sweetness, cracked black pepper, and a whisper of toasted oak.
